My name is Andrew and I am a 40 year old, happily married man living in Nashville, Tennessee, although in my mind I am still living in New York City. Over the course of my lifetime I have been privileged to be mentored by some amazing men who lived their lives with integrity, respect and a profound sense of purpose. These men imparted on to me the importance of always striving to be a better man than you were the day before.
By most accounts people would tell you that I am successful. I grew up in the Midwest and was raised by middle class parents. My father taught me a lot about working hard, respecting others and the importance of family. My parents have been married for 40 years this October and I am very fortunate in that regard. My mom and dad showed me what it means to truly love one another and to stick by each other no matter what.
I went to college at South Dakota State University (think Adam Vinatieri) and graduated with a B.S. in History (minor in Political Science and Pre-Law). In 2001 I graduated from William Mitchell College of Law and passed the bar the following Fall. I also completed my Master’s Degree in Ministry Leadership in the Spring of 2014. I worked briefly as an Insurance Defense attorney when I first was licensed but then spent the better part of 6 years running my own law firm where I focused on Estate Planning, Business Law and Arts and Entertainment Law. In 2007 I moved to New York City simply because it was something I had been dreaming of doing for a long time. Eventually I lucked out an found myself working for one of the Big 4 accounting firms which for the most part was a really great career move (just don’t work for the company anywhere outside the Northeast!)
I recently just accepted a new position and my family and I relocated to the Nashville area. We have only been here a short time but we already love it way more than St. Louis (as if that would be difficult.)
I am a published author and hosted my own radio show, the radio show was not a success but I enjoyed my brief experience on the airwaves! I have also done a lot of traveling both domestically (49 of 50 states) and internationally (Germany, Austria, Italy, Canada & Mexico.) On top of all that I have managed to trick a very beautiful woman into not only marrying me but loving me to death. In February of 2015 we welcomed our daughter, Samara Mattiel into the world. Being a father has changed me life and the joy our little girl brings us daily makes all the difference in my life. Don’t get me wrong though, parenting is hard work.
I don’t share any of the above to try and impress you. Rather I am sharing it to illustrate a point. Even though I have had a very blessed life and have achieved many of the goals I set for myself, I still wake up everyday and ask myself “How can I be a better man today?” Some days that is easier to accomplish than others if you know what I mean. We can all be better men, it doesn’t mean we are terrible to begin with, it simply means there is always something we can improve on day in and day out.
